Post-Waxing Care:After getting your body sugar waxed, you may think you can go out and do anything you want. However, there are some beauty rituals you can or not do post-waxing. A little prevention will help you from getting annoying side effects that could ruin your perfect wax treatment.
Sugar Waxing
Sugar waxing is nothing to be afraid of; however, it does leave the skin a bit sensitive for approximately 12-32 hours. During this period, you need to use some care to soothe your skin. Also, you want to avoid certain things that could minimize the risk of skin problems, rashes, itching, ingrown hair, and redness.
Post-Waxing Dos:
Apply post-depilatory lotion. This is the number one care tip. Post-depilatories help remove wax residue, avoid red bumps and ingrown hairs, and soothe the skin. Ask your esthetician what she recommends or who may carry the product.
Apply Cold Compresses to help calm the red skin and help with any appearance of red bumps or irritation. You may also massage an ice cube on the waxed skin or let the ice melt on a washcloth or sponge and use that as a compressor.
Cool gels made from natural calming ingredients such as Aloe Vera or Tea Tree Oil on your freshly waxed skin can be soothing. These can be applied regularly for a couple of days to help protect and refresh your skin.
Keep Clothing Loose immediately after your sugar-waxing session. Wear a comfortable pair of undies if you have Brazilian or Bikini wax. Loose clothing will help with sweat and friction that can irritate. Natural fibers like cotton can be much gentler on your skin than wearing polyester or spandex that does not let your skin breathe.
Moisturize and Exfoliate within two or three days after your appointment. Your skin should have recovered, and the pores have closed. Use a moisturizer from day one of your appointment and no later than the second day. This technique will help avoid clogging your pores or exposing your skin to chemicals or perfumes.
If you have problems with Inflammation or annoying itching, ask a skin expert about using Antiseptic Cream or Hydrocortisone.
Post-Waxing Don’t’s
Do Not touch your skin! Natural oils on your hands can clog your skin pores. This could increase the risk of infection. To avoid bumps or an adverse reaction, resist scratching the waxed areas.
No Oily or Drying Skin Products include body butter, heavily scented washes, skin sprays, or deodorants. Oily products such as Vaseline can clog the bores, and bumps may become present. Fragrances can increase the risk of irritation to the sugar-wax skin.
48 Hours
If you notice ingrown hairs, Do Not Pick at them. Leave any ingrown hairs alone for at least 48 hours. You can then exfiltrate the waxed area. If that does not remove it, you can purchase ingrown hair lotion, which usually works fine.
For 48 hours, you want to avoid the sun. This will give you a high risk for burns and skin scarring. Remember, your skin is sensitive, and you have just had the outer layer stripped. Therefore, sun exposure could be more damaging than usual. Hyperpigmentation of the waxed area is possible when you expose yourself to the sun without protection. As a reminder, always wear sunscreen at all times. You can use light sunscreen if you must be in the sun after the waxing appointment.
Waiting 48 hours after your waxing is recommended before swimming at the beach or in the pool Saltwater can cause bumps, and chlorine in the pool can be harsh to sensitive skin. And also, most pools can contain bacteria that may cause an infection in the open pores.
Can’t I do Physical Activity? It may sound extreme not to exercise after waxing, but it is an excellent preventive measure. Bacteria can thrive on sweaty skin. Also, the rubbing friction may cause damage to your skin. If you must work out, keep it very light.
Chemical Peeling is out of the question. Your skin has already been stripped of layers, and peeling would over-sensitize the skin and cause a risk of skin damage. A recommendation would be 72 hours after your wax before a peeling.
